Healthcare
We are often asked to create vibrant personal vignettes—without ever setting foot in the subject’s personal environment. We are tasked with capturing all footage in a single day, often with patients with complex health issues or in restricted areas where attention to detail is a legitimate safety concern. In every case, prioritizing one thing: connecting with our subjects genuinely to ensure they feel not only seen, but empowered by their own story.
I am generally responsible for coordinating all logistics and crew, maintaining our budget, leading pre-production and creative strategies, conducting all interviews, directing b-roll scenes in active patient/work areas, writing scripts, and directing the post process.
Challenges
Small budgets with 2-3 person crews
Only 30-60 minutes devoted to each location
HIPAA compliance required, meaning we had to avoid any non-participating patients and all protected health information
Managed safety requirements for crew in high-voltage, rooftop helicopter pads, high-wind, and other highly regulated, restricted areas
Extremely limited lighting and audio equipment are allowed in patient areas
Filmed with patients who are immunocompromised, experiencing fatigue, and/or have limited mobility
